Living With Back Pain And How You Can Better Deal With It

January 31st, 2010 by admin

If you are living a life in pain I know what you are going through because I suffer with chronic back pain. If you have been in pain for a long time you understand how sometimes we feel that things will never get better. I want to give you some helpful tips for when you think you just can not take the pain anymore. I want you to know that you are not alone.

I felt so alone for a long time in my life. No one understood my pain not even the family that loved me so I felt that I could not talk to them about it. I felt as though it would be me and the pain forever. It is easy to let depression overcome you when you are in pain for weeks, months, or years. Don’t let it get you down.

A therapist can help so make an appointment. Everyone needs someone they can talk to and psychiatrist make a living doing just that. A therapist is great at listening and even talking. Depression is not only brought on by the pain but can be caused by the sleepless nights caused by your pain.

Your mind and body start to feel the effects of the nights you do not sleep. This is also something a therapist can help you with. If I had a hard time doing something it would make me even more upset than I already was especially when it was something that I needed to do in the house or around it. There was one time when I needed to put the hoover wet dry vacuum in the garage shed and I could not because of the pain.

The pain was too much and I finally just sat down and cried. That is when I started seeing the therapist. She really helped me. I was feeling better mentally but I still had my pain to deal with. So I started taking vegetarian glucosamine. This is a safe supplement and the glucosamine in it is what helps repair cartilage. It has not stopped my pain and I do not know for certain if it is even helping at all.

But I did just start it so I will continue to take it. The point is if you are in serious pain then do something about it. Do not sit around feeling sorry for yourself and letting the pain beat you down. You are a strong person so get up and fight back.

When depression hits then get an appointment with a psychiatrist, when the pain is too much then try a supplement. Do not give in to your problem you have to fight back. You can do things to help yourself so do them. You should keep fighting back.

6 Top Picks for Nursing Shoes

January 8th, 2010 by admin

Nurses are renowned for working twelve to 16 hour shifts, which is a very long time to be on your feet.  This is why nursing shoes should have a correct fit to avoid foot, leg and back issues.  Closed toe women’s comfort clogs are recommended to avoid random cuts and exposure to hazardous materials, and the toes should be able to move openly in the toe box.  A deep heel cup inspires the correct muscle and tendon alignment of the leg, and it helps allocate the body’s weight over a larger surface area to enhance foot comfort.  Thick rubber soles provide good cushioning and shock absorption, and they are straightforward to scrub.

There are certain needs for medical shoes from the Occupational safety and health Administration ( OSHA ) which is the Fed. agency responsible for enforcing safety laws in the office.  OSHA doesn’t approve work shoes per se, but the Yankee national Standards Institute ( ANSI ) tests the shoes which should meet or exceed the standards.  A label such as ASTM F2413 may be found on authorized shoes.  To further ensure ladies comfortable shoes for medical professionals, check for the prestigious Seal of acknowledgment from the american Podiatric Medical association (APMA ).

Here are 6 top picks from medical pros with comments by those that basically wear the shoes :

Dansko nursing shoes are favored by many nurses.  One twenty-five year vet swears by the nursing clogs announcing that it was the first time in her career she had no leg agony after a long shift.  Dansko is known for its state of the art comfort shoes, and the professional nursing shoes are APMA approved .  Find them online:  dansko medical shoes store

Birkenstock shoes were advised to one nurse who was identified with inflamed heel spurs.  Since wearing the shoes, she has had no difficulty with her feet.  Many nurses say they are the most cushty shoes they have ever worn.

Crocs are worn by many medical care execs for all day foot comfort.  Crocs are good for those suffering from heel pain and bunions.

Nurse buddy shoes are exceedingly comfortable and provide great arch support.  They are light weight, and exceed ASTM slip-resistant qualifications.

Reebok Classic is another favourite among nurses.  They can be worn as an element of a standard nursing uniform or with scrubs.  One nurse reports that they are the most comfortable shoes she has ever worn in over 10 years of nursing.

Nike Shox nursing shoes are totally comfortable to wear for sixteen hour days at the care home, according to one certified nursing aid.  An RN who works twelve hour shifts asserts her feet don’t hurt as they did with traditional medical shoes.

Pain Described

More and more people are experiencing the inconvenience and pain of back problems during the lifetime. The two major types of pain are acute pain that lasts only a short while, usually less than three months. The injury site heals and the pain diminishes then disappears. With chronic pain, the discomfort doesn’t go away. It may continue for weeks or months even after the injury has healed.

What Creates Back Pain?

It is difficult to isolate pain in one part of the back from other parts. If the sufferer sits too long bent over a computer keyboard, the muscle strain may increase. Instead of correcting the underlying problem through proper posture, the individual may slump, or twist to relieve pressure from the muscles in spasm. This makes the problem worse.

Remedies

The chiropractor will first do a thorough review of the nerves and musculature of the back, neck and hips. The sufferer may need a series of x-rays in order to determine the extent of the misalignment. A treatment plan will be developed for each individual, using one or more treatment methods. Back pain may be addressed through massage, decompression of the disks, chiropractic adjustments, posture training and exercise plans.

Eliminating Recurrence of Pain

Continuing pain, regardless of its location is not just something to be endured. It is important to avoid situations where accidental pain happens. Lifting too much or from the wrong orientation is often the cause of back pain. This is could have been prevented by learning how to lift and carry properly. Posture plays a role in prevention. A few simple exercises can also reduce the likelihood of pain.

After identifying specific and general causes of pain, treatment through Vestavia Hills chiropractic therapy can be initiated. The chiropractor treats the underlying cause, not just the symptoms. Natural means do not need surgery and can be accomplished without drugs. They offer lasting relief from pain.

January 1st, 2010 by Guy Lobdell

The muscles in the back serve several purposes. One of them is to afford protection to the spine. If they are strained, so is their ability to do their job properly. Nip it in the bud and consult with a chiropractor before your back pain leads to a serious and long term disorder like sciatica.

The chiropractic practitioner at East Longmeadow Chiropractic doesn’t just treat back pain. Contrary to popular belief, chiropractors successfully treat a wide range of disorders. If you are experiencing any kind of joint or muscular discomfort, consult a chiropractor.

How do you find a good chiropractor? If a chiropractor has a clinic that owes its success to many years of referrals from former patients, you know you have found a good one. East Longmeadow Chiropractic is such a clinic. You will be given a thorough examination before any kind of therapy is advised or undertaken. If the chiropractor determines that his treatment is not right for you, he will refer you to a more appropriate specialist.
