Massage therapy has been known to help relax and clear your mind. Massage helps to decrease stress by calm your mind and soothing the muscles of the body. However, what about conditions of chronic pain? New studies are starting to show that massage has a greater impact on relieving conditions such as migraine headaches to lower back pain. Massage chairs are being utilized by many chiropractors for therapies to help people with chronic back pain conditions.

Massage therapy has been found to provide better pain relieving benefits than acupuncture and self-care. A study conducted by the group health operative of Puget Sound Center for health studies found this to be true in a study conducted in 2001. The study found that after one year of research a back pain massage had greater pain relieving benefits that both acupuncture and self-care.

Chronic pain has two main impacts on the patient. One is dealing with the constant pain felt throughout the body. The other is dealing with the psychological impact of constantly having pain. Massage therapy has been shown to reduce one’s stress by relaxing the mind as it sues your aches and pains.

Many people who are afflicted by arthritis, fibromyalgia, migraine headaches and Sciatica can are sufferers of chronic pain. Some of these conditions are a result of stiffening of soft tissues in the body. Soft tissues can include muscles, ligaments, tendons and joints. These soft tissues come under stress and panic become fatigued.

When you suffer from chronic pain, you may also have increased stress. Stress produces a reaction in the body that releases adrenaline. The adrenaline serves to give the body energy to protect itself. Under sustained stress, the energy starts to fatigue the muscles.

Massage chairs are designed to provide therapeutic benefits. A remote control is built into the massage chair. The remote control allows the user to set automatic programs or manual programs. Massage chairs come equipped with a multitude of massage techniques. Sophisticated software programs replicate many traditional and popular massage techniques.

In addition to massage, massage chairs have included supplemental treatments as well. It is popular to reduce swelling and enhance blood flow. This is used extensively in sports. Massage chairs have built-in heaters throughout the chair to apply heat where needed.

How about a good stretch? Massage chairs come equipped with stretching capabilities. Stretching exerts a force on the muscles and soft tissues normally by pulling. This gentle stretching is important to restore flexibility in joints and soft tissue areas. Lower body stretching and upper body stretching is available in massage chairs.

Massage chairs are designed to provide the same type of environment as you would get a regular massage. Normally, you would expect to listen to soothing music as to get your massage. Massage chairs are equipped with MP3 players and headphones to provide the same type of relaxing environment. Music helps to calm the mine by helping it to remain quiet.

We continue to be amazed at the therapeutic features that continue to be added into today’s massage chairs. The software is becoming more sophisticated to provide more effective massages. This provides users with more options and greater targeting for relief of their particular symptoms. For those with chronic pain, it is important to find relief on a continuous and reliable basis. Massage chairs can be your best friend in this respect.

Spinal Decompression Methods

May 31st, 2009 by Claudine Balsells
by Claudine Balsells

There are a variety of ways to apply spinal traction. A description is given of how a massage chair performs spinal traction. Traction is a force used to stretch or elongate joint surfaces. Specifically, mechanical traction is defined as the application of a mechanical force to the body with a method that separates the joint surfaces and elongate the surrounding soft tissues. In the case of spinal traction, mechanical traction is used to flex joint surfaces and stretch soft tissues.

Spinal traction machines have capabilities of exerting a pulling force across the entire length of the spine. These machines must secure both ends of the patient’s spine and then a pulling force is used to stretch the length of the spine. The pulling force is used in this case to stretch the soft tissues between the cervical disc.

In the case of a spinal decompression machine, a pulling force is used as the means for mechanical traction. Both ends of the patient is secured. The machine is then activated which pulls across the full length of the spine. In theory, the full length of the spine is stretched and then the soft tissues between the spinal discs are that also stretched.

Another method used to affect traction is inversion therapy. Inversion therapy usually utilizes boots that the wearer puts on. Either the patient is laid on flat table which then allows them to be raised with their feet up. Or the user must lock the boots onto a bar and then suspend themselves from there hanging upside down.

Now with inversion therapy the force to elongate the soft tissues is a pulling force. By suspending the individual by their feet, the force of gravity and the weight of the patient are used to apply traction. Inversion boots only apply the full force using the combination of gravity and body weight.

Roller tables are used to effect mechanical traction. A roller table is a long flat table to accommodate the patient lying completely flat. Rollers are contained inside the table and are used to apply mechanical traction.

Roller tables apply mechanical traction by passing the rollers across the spine. This applies an axial traction. As the roller passes each cervical disc, it will deflect the disc which stretches the soft tissues attached to it.

The procedure behind traction with a massage chair is also utilizing a roller. The roller is used to exert a bending mechanical force on the soft tissues between the cervical discs. Massage chairs use the rollers to cause the cervical discs to deflect.

Applying mechanical traction to the spine with a massage chair is using a roller. The roller causes each cervical disc to deflect. As each cervical disc deflects, a bending force is applied to the soft tissues between the cervical discs. The soft tissues are elongated.

Massage chairs are also able to provide a number of other treatments in addition to spinal traction. Massage chairs have a full array of massage treatments and programs. Additionally heating elements are placed throughout the chair soothing warmth can be applied as needed. Massage chairs also have stretching of the lower body. Massage chairs also come with MP3 players which can provide a relaxing environment for the patient.

Massage chairs are multipurpose treatment centers. They can provide a variety of treatments to accommodate many users. Massage chairs apply massage treatments consistently and can be customized for individuals. Massage chairs have a variety of massage programs both manual and automatic. These massage chairs can also be directed to specific muscle groups for targeted relief.

Stop Suffering From Hemmorhoid Pain

May 30th, 2009 by admin

No matter how you spell it, hemmorhoids are painful! Many times people suffer quietly, not really knowing where to turn or which medications to use to find relief.

What are hemmorhoids? Hemorrhoids are abnormally swollen veins in the rectum and anus. They are much like varicose veins you might see on a person’s legs.

Internal Hemmorhoids form inside the rectum. These are usually not painful due to the fact that there are no pain receptors in that are. They may bleed when irritated. Internal hemorrhoids can lead to prolapsed or strangulated hemorrhoids if left untreated.

External hemorrhoids occur outside of the anal canal. the swelling and irritation can be very painful. The hemmorhoid may become what is known as a thrombosed hemmorhoid if the vein ruptures and a bllodclot develops.

Pregnancy, constipation, chronic diarrhea, and not enough fiber in your diet are all possible causes of hemmorhoids. It is believed that genetics may also contribute to hemmorhoid development. Hard stools, caused by a lack of hydration, can cause irritation to the hemmorhoids. This can also be caused by drinking too much of a diuretic liquid such as coffee or cokes. An excess of lactic acid in the stool can cause irritation. This can be caused by over consumption of milk products. By reducing the amount of milk products such as cheese you may reduce the irritation and bring relief.

Additional factors that can cause hemorrhoids, for those with a genetic predisposition, are obesity and a sedentary lifestyle.

In most cases hemmorhoids should be treated non-surgically but in extreme cases surgical procedures may be neccessary.

The non surgical options for treatment of hemorrhoids are designed to relieve the symptoms of hemorrhoids.

They include:

Tub baths or Sitz baths several times a day in plain, warm water for about 10 minutes

Application of a hemorroidal cream

Suppositories placed in the rectum

The surgical options for removal of hemorrhoids include:

Rubber band ligation – A rubber band is placed around the base of the hemorrhoid inside the rectum. The band cuts off circulation, and the hemorrhoid withers away within a few days.

Sclerotherapy – the injection of a chemical solution around the blood vessel shrinks the hemorrhoid.

Infrared coagulation – Hemorrhoidal tissue is burned with a special device.

Hemorrhoidectomy – In rare cases, severe internal or external hemorrhoids may be removed by surgery known as hemorrhoidectomy.

Preventing the recurrence of hemorrhoids will require relieving the pressure and straining of constipation. Doctors often recommend increasing your fiber intake and consumption of non alcoholic fluids. Eating the right amount of fiber and drinking six to eight glasses of fluid (not alcohol) result in softer, bulkier stools. A softer stool lessens the pressure on hemorrhoids caused by straining. To prevent the hemorrhoids from protruding you should try to eliminate straining.

Low Back Pain Treatments With A Massage Chair

May 30th, 2009 by Steve Esquire
by Steve Esquire

Do you ever get back pain in your lower back? We depend so much on our back that sometimes we take it for granted. Statistics tell us that 80% of the population is affected by low back pain at some point in their lifetime. It is estimated that over $50 billion is spent every year in the treatment of lower back pain. Most reported back pain is due to job related injuries. There are many treatments for lower back pain including surgery and natural therapeutic methods. One interesting method being employed is with the use of massage chairs.

There are two types or categories for low back pain. There are short-term back problems which are termed acute. There are longer-term back problems lasting weeks to even months which are referred to as chronic. Most treatment methods except surgery are more along natural lines. There are some conditions where the patient may have back pain for years on end.

There are two schools of thought on treatments which are blending together more and more. The blending of Eastern medicine and Western medicine has increased the options available. This is very good for patients as now they have more natural therapies as options as well. Although in certain situations surgery may be the only option.

A doctor of Osteopath is a specialist in musculoskeletal problems particularly the joints. A chiropractor is also specialists in musculoskeletal and problems with a specialty in the spine. Both types of doctors are specialists in spinal health and either is qualified to treat lower back pain.

There are wide variety of conditions and situations given the complexity of the spine and the muscles and soft tissue areas. Treatments vary depending on each individual situation. If you have low back pain you should check with your medical specialist and see what treatments may be right for you.

The key to good spinal health is flexibility of the soft tissues. When the tissues have normal flexibility they can adjust to weight shifts on the spine. When they become less flexible, then the same motions can cause certain muscles to become fatigued. As a muscle fatigues it becomes stiff or which causes pain.

This concentration of force can happen because of poor posture, incorrect sitting position, or improper lifting techniques. This makes a few of the muscles, tendons and ligaments take the majority of the weight which causes them to become fatigued. This will lead to increased stiffness and eventually pain.

The key to a natural treatment is getting the patient to not continue to put this concentration of force on the lumbar area. With the source of aggravation removed, then the treatment concentrates on regaining flexibility of the soft tissues of the spine. Massage chairs enable treatments such as the application of heat, traction systems and of course massage therapy.

There are quite a variety of treatments available in many massage chair models. Massage chairs have replicated many different massage techniques which are available at the touch of a button. Many massage chairs also have stretching of the lower body and the upper body. Also, you can find heating elements built into massage chairs for applying heat to muscles throughout the body.

You can use massage chairs to warm you up prior to stretching or exercise. They are also perfect for your warm down after activities. They offer enormous convenience and flexibility to your schedule. A quick 10 minute massage after a stressful day can be very relieving. You should check with your physician to find out what options may be appropriate for you. Ask your physician if a massage chair for radio in home use may be appropriate for your situation.

Massage Chair Therapy Help Soothe Fibromyalgia Symptoms

May 27th, 2009 by Steve Esquire
by Steve Esquire

Sometimes our bodies can just feel lousy, but most of the time its a pain here or an ache here and we get over it. This is not the case with fibromyalgia. Many patients report oscillating levels of discomfort and pain. It seems to most affect soft tissues like muscles, ligaments and tendons. Some sufferers may have periodic, mild stiffness. Others can have downright chronic pain. Depending on the patients situation, some are using massage chairs to help with stiffness and pain relief.

Pain relief has been sought throughout the ages. Massage has been the natural approach to pain to the muscles and soft tissues. Many of these age-old techniques have been replicated in massage chairs.

Some cases have pointed to a possible link between symptoms of fibromyalgia and the build up of lactic acid. Lactic acid may build up in certain people and this build up causes pain and stiffness. Reducing lactic acid with massage therapy can help relieve certain symptoms if received on a continuous basis.

Getting periodic or frequent massages is hard for sufferers of fibromyalgia. This is where technology can be a blessing. Massage chairs provide a convenient and effective means to receive certain types of massage treatments.

Another noticeable difference for people with fibromyalgia is they have more aches, pains and discomfort than normal. They may be particularly sensitive to receiving massages. Massages penetrate little by little to soothe and relieve. Some people may feel some discomfort as they adjust to being touched in certain tender areas.

A person suffering from FMS should begin with mild stretching exercises to get warmed up. These stretches should be slow and deliberate. Do not bounce or vigorously stretch your muscles. The goal is to keep the muscle loose and improve the range of motion of the muscles and the joints.

Massage chairs incorporate warm up programs that use soft massage techniques to relax the muscles. You can choose from lighter massage treatments or more penetrating massages. Massage chairs allow you to select the area or exact spot where you need relief. This is great for targeted relief”when you need it!

Another treatment that helps reduce swelling and enhance blood circulation is the application of heat. Massage chairs have built in heating elements allowing you to select where you would like heat to be applied. You can select one or multiple areas of your body to suit your needs at any time.

Having fibromyalgia is hard on sufferers because of the stiff and aching of the muscles. The stiffness and aches are felt mainly in the soft tissues like muscles or ligaments. Physicians perform tests to determine if someone has this condition. Generally, a pressure point test is used. Pressure points throughout the body are tested to see if pain is present.

Having stiffness and aches is no way to live your life. Get ongoing relief and help rebuild your flexibility with a massage chair. The various treatments available in a massage recliner can be a huge benefit for those in need. Just having a reliable masseuse that you can activate when you need it is some the lifesaver you need. A massage chair goes to work on you when you push the button.
